My objection letter to the retention of a carpark on Green belt land

Re: 19/02907/FUL | Retention of extension to car park | Ecclesfield Red Rose J F C Playing Fields Nether Lane Sheffield S35 9ZX

I am writing to you with regard to the above retrospective application for the retention of a car park, with regard to which a number of my constituents have expressed concern.

I understand that this land has not previously been developed, and indeed that it is designated as part of the Green Belt.  The application site and nearby playing fields form an important green buffer between Chapeltown and Ecclesfield, and in doing so prevent urban sprawl as described in the National Planning Policy Framework.  I am completely opposed to any erosion of this barrier.

I do not believe that the provision of car parking facilities constitutes the very special circumstances which the NPPF requires to justify development in the Green Belt.  Indeed, the provision of car parking facilities is something which the City Council has previously been keen to dissuade in favour of encouraging the utilisation of public transport.  In addition, I understand that the land levels of the car park have been raised in comparison to previous levels, impacting negatively on local residents.

I would, therefore, like to raise an objection to this application on the basis of inappropriate development within the Green Belt.  I look forward to hearing from you.
